Qualifying:

Saturday practice was wet so grid positions went on championship points. This left me in 4th place on the front row of the grid.

Sunday was sunny with heavy showers. With seconds to spare before the race we made the decision to run full dry tyres as the track was drying fast between the showers. I got a good enough start and was third into the first corner. Coming towards the end of lap one the leaders ran wide at the village corner, I saw my chance and passed on the inside to gain the lead. I got my head down and pulled a gap on the others, but Gerry Daniels who started from another group was not far behind on corrected time. I finished 1st with Gerry 1.5 seconds behind in 2nd.

I was over the moon with this result as it was my first ever win.

Walderstown Road Races: Meeting abandoned

Skerries 100 Road Races:

 1 race entered:

  • Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike

Qualifying:

Friday evening was looking dodgy weather-wise, but thankfully the rain held off for practice. I got a good clear run and ended up third on the grid for the race.

Saturday morning was wet and dull and it looked like it would be called a wet race. A delay in the first race allow the circuit to dry up and we got a dry run. I held onto my third position into the first corner (Finnegan's) and stayed third for the rest of the race. I was nearly put back to 4th place by Benny Smith on corrected time but managed to stay 4 seconds ahead of him at the end of the race. It was a good result for me as I thought the 600's would be more suited to this twisty circuit.

Athea Road Races:

 2 races entered:

  • Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike

  • Senior Support (non Championship) on GSX-R750 Club Bike

Qualifying:

Saturday was a lovely hot sunny day and the track was in good shape. I qualified 4th for the senior support race which I was happy with as it left me on the front row of the grid. The bike was handling good and we had no major problems.

On Sunday, the senior support was the first race of the day. The rain came just before we went up to the line so we frantically had to change to wet tyres. The track was very slippery in different parts so I was happy to get back safe in third place. There was also a non-championship race for us at the end of the day. The same grid positions applied. It had been a terrible day for deciding on tyres and after about three different tyre changes we settled on a wet front and dry rear which turned out to be spot on. I really enjoyed the second race as it was a good battle the whole race through. I finished third close behind the leading pair.

Bush Road Races:

 1 race entered:

  • Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike

Qualifying:

Friday night's practice was dry and sunny. I didn't feel comfortable on the bike from the word go and after my 5 laps qualifying I ended up back in 20th position for the race. I checked the suspension setup after the session and discovered I hadn't reset the pre-load settings in the forks after a recent trackday. This was causing the bike to bottom out on this bumpy circuit.

On Saturday, race day, I felt a bit more confident with the suspension changes. There were heavy showers all day which made tyre choice very difficult, so after much panic I ended up running a wet front and a dry rear. I got a good start in the race and after the first lap I was running at around 15th. I managed to pick off a couple more riders during the race and got up to 9th place on the last lap. I finished 10th on corrected time.
I was disappointed with my poor qualifying due to my own silly mistake but overall I'm happy I got some more championship points and the bike feels really good on the Pirelli tyres. (P.S. I am currently rebuilding the SV650 and hope to running in the Supertwins and Junior Support soon)

The Tandragee 100:

 1 race entered:

  • Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike
    (SV still receiving treatment!)

Qualifying:

Was dry on Friday. I went out for newcomers practice and didn't feel the bike was handling well on the new Dunlop tyres.
After a few suspension changes I went out for qualifying where I finished a credible 5th on the grid. The braking were inconsistent and on investigation discovered this was due to a warped disk.
This circuit is a lot faster and bumpier than Cookstown and it showed up a lot more problems for me.

The race day Saturday was dry and sunny. I got a terrible start and dropped back to 8th on the short run up to the chicane. I tried desperately to re-gain my position but I found it difficult to pass other riders. I was in 7th place going into lap 3 of 6 when the race was red flagged and called a result after 2 laps on countback.

I felt that calling a result after 1/3 race distance was a bit unfair, but on a positive note, I gained valuable championship points and hold 3rd spot on the championship table.

The Cookstown 100:

3 races entered:

  • The junior support on the SV650

  • Supertwins on the SV650

  • Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.

Qualifying:

Was extremely wet on Friday. I qualified 14th in the Junior Support and 8th in the Supertwins on the SV, which was having clutch problems, but I still got valuable track time before qualifying 2nd in the Senior Support.

The race day Saturday was dry and sunny. First up was the Junior Support and after getting the SV clutch sorted (thanks to Barney Loughlin), I got a great start and moving well through the field to around 5th or 6th  on corrected time. On lap 4 I lost the front end trying to pass another rider approaching Blacks jump, crashing heavily into the ditch. The race was abandoned and luckily for me I wasn't hurt, but the bike wasn’t too good. This ruled me out of the Supertwins race.

I lined up on the grid in the senior support race a bit rattled after my spill earlier on.
I got a great start and headed into the lead only to be out braked by the pole sitter Benny Smith. I hung onto the back of him but could not pass him. With about 2 laps to go I dropped back to third after a few "moments" and that was where I finished.

I was happy with my result considering my off earlier in the day.
